The Perfect day in a weekend.

I woke up this morning and noticed immediately that something seemed exciting...looking out of my window i noticed that i was looking out into the perfect day one would want in a week end. .........not a single cloud in the sky..and perfect sunshine.....its not often that we have days like this in the U.K(although everyday is like that in India)....anyway i decided that ive been working too hard and i could afford to put away my work for later....i decided to step outside and find out how people here spend the perfect week end.

So in a moment im ready and off to the Hoe..which is where all the activities are.... ......the Hoe is a place upon the coastline and is the best known landmark in Plymouth. It is known to be the place where Sir Francis Drake played bowls before England was attacked by the Spanish armada ( i`ll leave the history for another time). The most prominent structure upon the hoe is the smeatons tower, which is a lighthouse constructed 20 miles off Plymouth in 1759 and moved to the hoe when it started collapsing!
...... Heres a link to our University website which offers a interactive 3D panoramic view of the hoe..its worth checking

Its still winter here and unlike what i thought, sunny days are not warm days! I was expecting a nice warm sunshine but what i got was a chilling wind which froze my hands and ears, blew apart my poor hairstyle and made my nose run! However all that just couldn’t take away the beauty of the moment... flowers have begun to spring up in every conceivable place there is..its like the earth has opened up and popped up flowering plants all over
......the majority are daffodils..pretty yellow flowers..not planted..they just appear..almost like miracles
.... ..and there are otheres..smaller purple ones called crocus..which is equally attractive
......and not to mention the gardens that have been planted..its a floral extravaganza
...and its only winter now...i wonder how spring is going to look.

Weekends here are treasured by people and its a time when they really enjoy....just as weekend evenings are mostly spent getting drunk..the days are devoted to hobbies ...i was just trying to make a list and i came up with quite a few that s common in Plymouth..
Sailing....on a day like today u just cant miss that ..there were quite a few of them out there today.. ... and it made an awesome sight especially with two warships in the background. Surfing is another very popular sport here but its done only in places where there are good waves.... skate boarding, ... stunt biking and roller skating are some other hobbies that the younger generation prefer....how about the older generation....hmm i`ve noticed that the old people here are really active and independent...they seem to be the most numerous lot at the hoe..mostly walking their dogs
...or basking in the sun. There were a lot of people jogging out there and some of them seemed to be in their 70s and 80s..whew! ...
I was not very successful at catching all the people at their hobbies but if i were to name a few..the list is endless..it ranges from kayaking, fishing, climbing, trekking, cycling, caving, canoeing...blah blah blah blah...you name it they do it!

Brr...by now i was frozen stiff...my hands were numb....and i could no longer click snaps...its strange how cloudy days are a lot warmer here...the perfect weekend maynot be so perfect afterall...thoughtfully,half frozen i headed back to my room to thaw myself out! Good old hot and humid India.

I was expecting a very quiet birthday..not expecting many people to remember this day..but i am obviously wrong. The wishes have begun pouring in much ahead of the date and its still coming in....I just wanted to thank all of you for taking the time of and sparing a moment for me..
unfortunately this time theres no cakes or sweets to offer you.
But ur wishes are warmly recieved all the same.
So how am i celebrating it? well im not really celebrating.
.i ve kept it secret and nobody knows here...for me its a day
to sit back and put my life in perspective...i realise i am at a very
critical juncture of my life ..a lot depends upon how this year goes for me. i cant really complain how life has treated me for the past 25 years and i hope this year will be filled with a lot of luck and have a little extra to offer.
It is interesting though that today is also chinese new year. but whats even more interesting is that by chinese classifications i was born in the year of the monkey....no wonder i`m attracted to climbing trees.
All the chinese guys here are busy partying and making merry...and of course sticking to superstitions...like not having a bath today ..cause that would mean washing away good luck!(so i guess dirty guys have a lot of good luck!) there is a significant amount of chinese people in the uk..a huge bulk of them being students. Our international students service is organising a party for them.
if any of you are interested in knowing more about the chinese new year, i found a good link : Click Here
and heres another one if you want to determine what animal you are in
the chinese view of things.

oh yeah, just for the record..it sounds like a heap of monkey shit!
Thats it from me for now..will be more regular by the end of this month.
once again thanks for all your kind wishes
love
Thomas
