…and to continue the script of what we hope will be a life long story….we have just completed another primary chapter. Last Sunday (16th December) marked the official announcement of the fixing of my upcoming marriage with Rosa (That’s the best way I could sum it up for non-malayalees) . For those familiar with the traditional Kerala Christian weddings, it would be easier to say that it was our “Orapeer” – literally translated as the “fixing” or “binding”.
The function involved no formal ceremony, but was just a social gathering of the immediate families from both Rosa`s and my side. The Orapeer traditionally started out as a gathering between the elders of the two sides to discuss the terms of the marriage and fix other intricacies such as dates, timings venues e.t.c. However, these days it is more of a party in which the two families first intermingle and exchange introductions. For Rosa and me, it meant having to meet each others countless relatives and retain it in our tiny brains for future reference! However, it was another occasion to be with each other and that made it more than worth it!
The party itself lasted only a few hours and was held at my house in Karimanoor and between meeting one guest after the other, and trying to steal some time to ourselves we were quite exhausted. Anyhow I guess we now feel “fixed” / “bound” and are all the happier for it.
P.S..and that fixes all 3 of us brothers!!
